Report: Arkansas Tech University’s 2nd Annual Behavioral Symposium
Representing Tulane University's Pharmacology and Neuroscience programs, members of Dr. Allan V. Kalueff's lab (Department of Pharmacology, Tulane Medical School) participated in the 2nd Annual Behavioral Symposium. Held at Arkansas Tech University (Russellville, AR) on November 14th, 2009, presentations ranged from topics in biological psychology and clinical psychiatry to sociology and anthropology. Specifically, Tulane presentations included “Correlating cytokines with chronic social defeat stress”, presented by Pharmacology Masters student Keith Wong, and “Modeling habituation responses in zebrafish (Danio rerio)”, presented by post-baccalaureate researcher Jason Goodspeed and Neuroscience Master student Siddharth Gaikwad. Furthermore, Neuroscience Ph.D. student Jonathan Cachat and Neuroscience Master student Marco Elegante spoke on the “Behavioral phenotypes of anxiety in zebrafish”, and Dr. Kalueff delivered “The effects of vitamin D on aging”.
Special thanks are extended to Dr. Julie Mikles-Schluterman, Dr. William Schumann and Dr. Jason Warnick, conference organizers and representatives of ATU’s Department of Behavioral Sciences. Their efforts made it possible for members of Dr. Kalueff’s lab to positively interact with colleagues, not only by sharing the research currently being conducted in their lab, but also by learning about the kinds of research others are focusing on, thus fostering development of solid academic and professional relationships in the field of behavioral science. The ATU exchange visit to Tulane University is expected in April 2010.
Support for this trip was provided by Tulane University, Tulane University Neuroscience Association (TUNA) and by Dr. Kalueff’s lab at Pharmacology Department of Tulane Medical School.
